Hunter Regian

Dear Cheer and Pom Alumni, here is an opportunity just for us. Newly minted Broadway producer Hunter Regian wants to hear from you. If you have a dream to see your name in marquee lights, Hunter can get you there. If you fancy yourself a Broadway investor, Hunter has an exciting financial opportunity for you. If you want to learn about Broadway up close and personal, Hunter can provide you with special, unique experiences. Hunter just wants to inspire his cheer buddies, give back to this program, and bring more Texans into the world of Broadway. And that’s just the beginning.

The former Texas Cheer Co-Captain is now Co-Producer of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit revival "Sunset Boulevard," starring Nicole Scherzinger, which opens on Broadway in October. It’s his first time to see his name above the show title in NYC. That’s a big deal on Broadway. The production comes to New York from London where it won 7 Olivier awards including Best Musical Revival, Best Director, and Best Actress. If the show wins the Best Musical Revival Tony Award in 2025, Hunter will be going to the stage to accept.

Hunter is also Co-Producer for "The Queen of Versailles" starring Kristin Chenoweth, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Chenoweth and Schwartz, of "Wicked" fame, reunite after 20 years to bring a huge new musical to Broadway. This summer, the production made its world premiere at the historic Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston and will be headed to Broadway in 2025. “Being on the team building the next big American musical with talents like Kristin and Stephen is a dream come true. These creators are part of why I fell in love with musical theatre, and now I have the chance to help move the needle forward. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to unite my Texas community in support of this exciting new work.”

As Executive Producer and Founder of Regian Entertainment, Hunter currently has nine projects slated in various stages of development for which he can plug in talented people (hint-hint). He will be making his international producing debut on London’s West End in December and February, with Sigourney Weaver in "The Tempest," and Tom Hiddleston in "Much Ado About Nothing." He is working with seasoned, as well as new-to-the-scene creatives, to develop original work in Texas and NYC, including a new show about Texas Cheerleading, for which I have sent in my resume.

There are so many different credits, famous names, and big-time titles in Hunter’s history, you would think he’s been doing Broadway for twenty years. It was only seven years ago when Hunter graduated UT with a Theatre and Dance degree from the College of Fine Arts and moved to New York as an intern for The Prom. Within a few weeks the show’s producers saw something special in this kid from Tyler, and he was promoted to a full-time position. Soon he was working on the smash hit "Moulin Rouge" as manager of their New York headquarters. "Moulin Rouge" swept the 2021 Tony awards and Hunter found himself in a career as a producer with an unlimited future. As a bonus, attending the TONY Awards was a lifelong ambition and he wasn’t yet 24 years old.

It was early in life when Hunter got the bug for performance. From the age of eleven he had a dual existence: competitive gymnastics and civic theater. Hunter was state champion on floor exercise multiple times, which required intense training. By mid-high school Hunter was fully focused on theater. He was the first youth director at Tyler Civic Theater and has come full circle, as he now serves on their board of directors.

Hunter attended Whitehouse High School and was the drum major for their 400+ member Wildcat Band. “There were no male cheerleaders, so I was in the band, BUT I got to tumble down the middle of the field in my uniform for Homecoming!” Quarterback of their football team was Patrick Mahomes. Hunter grew up with the future NFL star along with Brittany Mahomes who was on the cheerleading squad.

Hunter graduated high school early and moved to Austin immediately, despite his entire family being diehard Aggies. He saw cheer as a way to develop leadership skills and community. He made the squad with little stunting experience. “I was a tumbling specialist who weighed 150 pounds and I had to get bigger and stronger.” Squad captain David Grun saw the potential and trained Hunter all summer. Three months later Hunter was cheering football games as a freshman and throwing a back full in the middle of spell out. What a way to start college.

After three years at UT where he was “majoring in cheerleading” Hunter decided to focus on his career. He stepped away from cheer and became assistant to department of Theater and Dance Professor Natasha Davison, who has gone from mentor to colleague. They share Co-Producer credit for "Sunset Boulevard." “There is a spark and drive in Hunter which was immediately evident as a student. He brought his full energy to his classes, university productions, and the UT cheer squad” Davison reports. “I am so proud of him. He is the next generation of entertainment producers and I have no doubt he will be leading the way.” Cheer-leading the way, I say.

Regian Entertainment is a full-scale entertainment production company, offering producing services, investment management, creative direction/choreography, theatrical general management, theatrical event production, and consulting. If you see yourself seeking any of these services or want to get involved, you might just have a place on Broadway.

In true Longhorn spirit of What Starts Here Changes the World, Hunter says, “The goal is to become a Texas entertainment powerhouse—and then share the 'y’all of it all' with the rest of the world.” Leading with kindness, energy, and southern hospitality, he’s determined to spread his passion for the arts far and wide, bringing the joy of storytelling to audiences everywhere. With the help of Texas Cheer and Pom alumni, he might just get his wish! (wink-wink)
